Amur Maple

Large shrub. Glossy green, lobed foliage and sprays of small, fragrant, yellow blooms on slender branches in spring. Radiant scarlet-red fall foliage and samaras. Prefers acidic, well-drained soil. Adaptable, extremely hardy and drought tolerant. Prune in full-leaf only.

Rocky Mountain Maple
Acer glabrum

Native, shrub/tree. Small clusters of green-yellow, late-spring blooms on bright red twigs. Lime-green foliage turns fiery orange-red in fall. Prefers acidic, moist well-drained soil. Drought tolerant once established. Prune only in summer, in full leaf as needed.

Deeply divided palm-shaped red foliage turns burgundy-red in fall, accented by bright red samaras. Small purple-red blooms in spring. Prefers moist, well-drained soil and some shade. Prune in summer, in full leaf, to avoid excessive bleeding. Accent, specimen or bonsai tree.

Tamukeyama Japanese Cutleaf Maple
Acer palm. 'Tamukeyama'

Cutleaf, new deep crimson foliage turns dark purple-red, then fiery scarlet in fall. Weeping specimen with cascading branches requires acidic, moist, well-drained soil. Tolerates heat, humidity and rabbit-browse. Foliage may scorch in full sun. Prune only in full leaf.

Large shrub with thick oval leaves suitable for wet sites. Bark is thin, smooth and grey-green.

Green Alder
Alnus viridis crispa

Native to cooler North American climates. Coarse, finely toothed, oval green foliage and inconspicuous yellow-green to brown blooms in spring followed by red catkins. Tolerates dry and rocky soils; thrives in wet soils. Nitrogen-fixing reclamation plant.
