Blue Beech/Am. hornbeam

Spring catkins mature to hop-like seed clusters enjoyed by birds and squirrels. Rounded oval form with strong blue-grey trunk and branches resemble flexed muscle. Toothed dark green foliage turns red in fall. Thrives in full sun or full shade. Prefers a moist, well-drained soil.
